A hearing is scheduled to begin today to determine if there is enough evidence to require Dr. Conrad Murray to stand trial on an involuntary manslaughter charge stemming from Michael Jackson’s death.
Deputy District Attorney David Walgren told Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Michael E. Pastor last week that he expects the hearing to take eight court days.
“I would expect there are going to be a lot of people here on Tuesday,” the judge said at the tail-end of a hearing last week in Murray’s case. “We recognize the interest of the public.”
“We will find out more about the case in doing the preliminary hearing,” one of Murray’s attorneys, J. Michael Flanagan, told reporters last week.
It was unclear how soon a trial would begin if the judge determines there is sufficient evidence against Murray. Flanagan has estimated that it would be “quite some time.”
He noted that the defense is “still in the investigatory stage” and “still gathering facts.” He said he believes the issue will be “who injected the propofol.”
